Highlands North Boys’ School matric learners say hard work pays

HIGHLANDS NORTH – The two had to take time out from parties to focus on their matric academic year.

Highlands North Boys’ High School matrics Lesley Motsage and Koketso Phiri, both from Alexandra, claimed their dedication to school work was the reason they were successful in this year’s exams.

The two boys said they had to take time out from social parties and other fun staff to focus on their studies last year.

Lesley, who achieved a bachelor’s degree pass, said he had to sacrifice a lot to ensure that he passed. “Because I’ve always known that I will be writing my exams at the end of the year, I then decided that I will put all my time and energy in studying to enable myself to pass and it happened the way I had planned,” he said.

“I was hoping to get a bachelor’s pass and look, today it happened and all thanks to dedication and hard work. I had late night sleeps studying and preparing throughout the year – that is what I call sacrifice.”

Lesley plans to study applied maths, however, that will depend if he receives a study fund from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

He added that he would be grateful if someone could pay for his studies because he did not have the funds to enroll and study at university.

As for his classmate and friend, Koketso, who was also the first one in his family to write and pass matric, also reiterated his dedication and hard work.

“I really feel happy that I actually broke the cycle and I’m the first in my family to have a matric certificate,” he said.

“This is a great achievement for me and mostly for my family and this is the reason I dedicated myself so much to ensure that I break that cycle.”

Lesley will study criminology and he also await NSFAS to respond to his application for a study fund.

Principal Mike Masinge praised the two and wished them well for their future.
