Man arrested by Bramley police for allegedly raping a minor

BRAMLEY – The little girl was taken to a medical doctor and it was confirmed that penetration had taken place.

A 21-year-old man is in police custody allegedly for raping a 12-year-old girl in Marlboro Gardens.

It is alleged that the incident happened on 22 December after the little girl went missing for about two hours from her grandmother’s home.

Bramley police spokesperson, Captain Molefe Mogodi reported that the victim vanished without a trace and her grandmother went to her neighbour’s house to check if anyone had seen her.

“Her neighbour informed the complainant [grandmother] that he had not seen the victim around there,” said Mogodi.

“However, the neighbour’s actions appeared suspicious which prompted the complainant to ask him to open the door. The complainant then found her granddaughter in the house.”

The little girl was taken to a medical doctor on suspicion that she might have been raped and Mogodi said the doctor apparently confirmed that penetration has indeed taken place.

He said the police assisted the victim to open the case and the suspect was arrested on 1 January.

The matter was assigned to the Family, Child Violence and Sexual Crime Unit (FCS) and the suspect was detained at Bramley Police Station.

Mogodi said he has since appeared in court and the investigation continues.
