Gauteng High Court escapee finally apprehended by police

JOHANNESBURG – The suspect was arrested during an operation in Kagiso.

Africa Nkuna, the suspect who escaped on 9 December at the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, was finally re-arrested by the police last weekend.

This according to Constable Constance Lelimo, acting spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station on 3 January.

During the chaotic scenes at the court on the day, three other suspects were re-arrested, while others were shot dead, according to Lelimo.

Nkuna, who was in court for a murder charge, managed to exit the court and was on the run before being re-arrested by Kagiso police on Saturday. “He is currently in police custody,” said Lelimo.

“The suspect was arrested during an operation in Kagiso, West of Johannesburg by the police. During his escape, two other suspects who had been scheduled to appear in court on that day, tried to escape but were fatally wounded and Nkuna was the only one who had managed to escape.”

Nkuna now also faces charges of escaping from lawful custody and attempted murder.
