Mohale’s Glam guide to the dance

JOBURG – Mohale Motaung is in the business of looking good and his business, Glam Troupe, is a one-stop shop to all things beautiful.

It’s the most glamorous time of the year and looking good is an absolute must. Mohale Motaung is in the business of looking good and his business, Glam Troupe, is a one-stop shop to all things beautiful.

Having had a breath-taking traditional wedding earlier this year where he married personality Somizi Mhlongo, Motaung is an expert in all the glam dos and don’ts. His business venture was inspired by his own sister’s desire to go matric dance dress shopping.

“In 2016, my younger sister was going to her matric dance so she said to me ‘please help pick out an outfit’ – you know shoes, hair, the works but then I thought about it and I was like ‘It’s going to be such a process to go to so many different stores and that’s when the business idea came about.”

After doing some research, he realised that parents are the ones who have to go through this tedious process too.

“The kids are confused because they want guidance and quality. That’s when I decided that I’m going to seriously start thinking about this business. “In 2017 I completed my research and all the formalities, checked out the competition, calculated my costs to make this a reality and then last year in May, Glam Troupe was born.”

To ease the matric dance stress, Glam Troupe provides packages to students across every LSM (living standards measure).

“We are just providing the service, think of us as the middle man between the client and vendors. The aim is to have everything available all at one place.”

With matric dance season well under way, a favourite memory from his own matric dance was bragging rights.

“I always loved perfectly tailored suits, so that year I wore black. My relationship ended a few months before the matric dance, so the girl that was supposed to be my date wasn’t. “I had to fly someone over all the way from the Eastern Cape to go with me so I had the opportunity of telling everyone that I flew this girl from EC just to come with me, you know, that wow factor.”

The basis of the business is matric dances but with some of the demands they have been receiving the business has plans of branching out into graduations, weddings, styling and corporate. They’re also in the process of opening up a makeup school. Motaung’s advice to future matriculants is to start early and keep it simple. For your Glam Troupe package, visit www.theglamtroupe.co.za
