St Teresa’s School basks in 2019 successes

ROSEBANK – St Teresa's School can look back and smile on a number of achievements throughout the year thanks to staff, parents, learners and community at large.

St Teresa’s School in Rosebank has enjoyed yet another successful and fulfilling year.

On all three campuses, the girls have enjoyed success in many fields.

According to St Teresa’s Senior Primary School principal, Jean Carey, the high school participated in the South African Council for English Education (SACEE) creative writing competition and performed exceptionally well. Eight candidates were nominated at the awards ceremony and their work will also be published in the SACEE magazine.

“The current Grade 11s have developed a new leadership structure for 2020. The girls will be working in three different committees and each committee has a head leader in charge of the committee. We look forward to this innovation and the energy that this new leadership team will bring,” Carey said.

She added that the completion of the senior primary building has been an enormous improvement and the new facilities were being enjoyed by staff and girls alike. The space has been designed for an integrated approach to teaching, where staff will merge subjects and incorporate more project-based learning, along with thinking skills and technology.

“We are also introducing a new Grade 7 leadership programme based on the high school leadership structure in 2020. The girls have already been introduced to the programme and are excited for their new roles next year.”

Carey said several of the junior primary facilities have been upgraded and therefore enhanced.

“We look forward to the junior primary’s new Puzzle Library in 2020, a revamped and extended physical education programme, as well as the introduction of coding in our IT space. We continue to explore new and exciting ways to teach the girls in our care, this being our 90th year of existence.”

The principal said sport at St Teresa’s had been successful too. With improved results in all areas of school sports, there has also been a pleasing increase in participation in most sports. She extended the school’s gratitude to the school’s parent teacher association who organised for the Craighall campus pool as well as the Rosebank campus pool to be heated.

“As St Teresa’s turns 90 next year, we look forward to another event-filled year. We will work hard to make a difference to our community and encourage young ladies to face the challenges of an ever changing world. St Teresa’s wishes the Rosebank community many blessings over the festive season. May God’s light shine brightly on this vibrant community.”
