Reach for A Dream continues its great work

ILLOVO – The Reach for A Dream foundation reflected on the current year and the many dreams they have fulfilled while they aim to continue the trend.

The Reach for A Dream Foundation has been fulfilling dreams of children who suffer from life-threatening illnesses for 31 years.

The foundation’s CEO, Julia Sotirianakos said this year has been a wonderful year for the foundation as they have had the privilege of opening eight dream rooms in hospitals across South Africa. “These rooms have allowed us to give our dreamers a safe space while in hospital receiving treatment to escape and dream,” she said.

“We have also fulfilled approximately 1 600 dreams in 2019. With each dream being special in its own way, touching the lives of children, their families and their communities. It has been a joy to watch our dreamers smile, laugh and dream this year.”

She added that they have also enjoyed wonderful working relationships with doctors, nurses and hospitals across the country as they assisted the foundation in finding children with life-threatening illnesses aged between three and 18 years of age. “We are looking for volunteers and donors who can contribute their time and funds towards our dreams. We also look for in-kind items, in terms of new or unused toys and games for children in the hospital. Many children will remain in hospital over the festive period, so we would love to be able to spoil them with some Christmas gifts during this time.”

The CEO said as they end 2019, they reflect on how many lives they have been able to touch and it has been a joy to reach so many children and to inspire hope through the power of a dream. “As we look forward to 2020, our goal is to ensure we continue the work of the foundation and continue to bring hope, courage, joy and strength to our beautiful dreamers across South Africa.”
