Parkview Junior principal reflects on the year

PARKVIEW – Principal Fiona Pennington highlights the success of a number of school events which were well supported by parents.

Parkview Junior School (PVJ) principal Fiona Pennington shared some of the highs and lows of the school during 2019 with the Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

Pennington said that the online application process for Grade 1s presented many challenges, proving to be stressful for parents, management and administration assistants, adding that the school is still battling to reach its full capacity for Grade 1 in 2020, but remains hopeful nonetheless.

Despite this hiccup, she listed a number of successful events which were well-supported by parents. These included a welcome braai, a cook-off competition covering various traditional menus and a movie night and profitable garden day.

The principal said many learners excelled academically. Grade 2 Yaseen Dajee excelled in the spellathon, while in the maths competition Nathan Plagerson was awarded a prize at a district and provincial level. Learners in grades 1 to 3 also excelled at the Conquesta Olympiad for English and Maths.

Looking ahead to 2020, Pennington said, “I look forward to a good year of working with a dedicated and committed team at PVJ. I look forward to working together for the good of the school with the newly elected SGB members to see development and growth as well as maturity in all areas of the learners both academically and in sport.

“Wishing all the parents, staff and friends of PVJ a time of peace, health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year. To our faithful sponsors, [I wish] a year of favourable fortune and prosperity. We at PVJ look forward to your unwavering support in 2020.”
