Man sentence to 10 years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft

PARKHURST – Station Commander at the Parkview Police Station Colonel Theledi Gopane welcomed the sentence.

John Lombard (37) was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court following a housebreaking and theft incident in Parkhurst.

Spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said, “On 27 August at 6.30pm, the complainant entered his daughter’s house that was on sale in 5th Avenue, Parkhurst. He discovered that a gas stove, windows, cables, lights, doors, handles and taps were stolen.”

Sibeko said the following day, on 28 August, at 9am, the complainant went to the house again and heard someone inside and immediately alerted a local security company.

“On their arrival, the security officers checked the house and found an unknown man and called the police who arrested him.”

Sibeko explained that a docket was allocated to Constable Mmeli Mzolo for further investigation. Mzolo gathered the evidence that was presented to the court of law and managed to secure a 10-year sentence and the accused was declared unfit to possess a licensed firearm.

Station Commander at the Parkview Police Station Colonel Theledi Gopane welcomed the sentence and commended Constable Mzolo for his hard work and dedication.

He further mentioned that Parkview police will endeavour to play their part in fighting the scourge of crime and continue to bring perpetrators to book.
