Police have arrested a 24-year-old male suspect for business robbery.
It was alleged that four suspects robbed a business at the corner of Delvers Street and Albertina Sisulu Road in Joburg Central on 7 December.
Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele said, “The suspects entered the shop pretending to be customers where one of them asked for the price of denim trousers. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at the cashier who was forced to lie down. The suspects then took an undisclosed amount of cash from the till and two cell phones before they fled the scene.”
Mbele added that community members stopped a police vehicle that was patrolling the area and alerted them. “When the suspects saw the police vehicle, they started to run away in different directions. The police members gave chase and apprehended one suspect and managed to recover a firearm with no serial number and live rounds of ammunition.”
The suspect was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Mbele added that an investigation was underway and the suspect would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
The three other suspects are on the run.
