Guard squanders money, lies to police

ALEXANDRA – Self-protection from wife, employers leads guards to lying.

A security guard found guilty of perjury was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to four years’ imprisonment which was wholly suspended for five years.

Hennie Khoza (43) was convicted for knowingly making a false affidavit at Bramley Police Station that he was kidnapped and robbed on 1 November and released 12 days later by two male captors. This was after he squandered money which his wife was expecting to receive and from fear that he could lose his job after days of absenteeism. He admitted to the offence during police interrogation.

In his aaidavit, he claimed the men forced him at gunpoint into a Polo VW at the Grayston Drive and M1 south freeway off ramp early on the morning of 1 November as he walked to work. He claimed that they pepper sprayed him in his eyes and covered his head with a cloth and robbed him of R1 500 in cash, identity document and his wallet which contained smart and bank cards.

After a 45-minute drive, they left him locked in an unknown dark building where they fed him twice a day until his release at 5am on 13 November.

He reported the ‘incident’ at the police station and requested it to be investigated. He further claimed that he could identify the men.
