Suspects behind bars following intensive operation

JOBURG – The Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested 20 suspects during its weekend operation.


The Johannesburg Flying Squad successfully arrested 20 suspects for different crimes in Johannesburg during its operation which started from 6am on 15 November until 6am on 18 November.

The police also recovered five stolen and hijacked vehicles and one 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Among the 20 suspects, two were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, six for common robbery, seven for murder, business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm, three for transit robbery and the other two for possession of drugs.

According to a spokesperson for the squad, senior personnel official Raymond Sambo, stolen vehicles that were recovered are a silver VW Polo, white VW Polo, and white Toyota Tazz.

He said white Opel Astra and a white Hyundai i10 which were recovered were hijacked cars.

“All 20 suspects aged between 20 and 35 will be appearing soon in different Magistrates’ Courts facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common robbery, murder, business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs.”
