Greek Queens founder Edison Mbatha died from twisted intestines

JOBURG – A post-mortem report says Coach Eric died as a result of twisted intestines.

Twisted intestines are said to have been the cause of death for the founding chairperson of Croesus Ladies, Edison Mbatha.

Born in Botswana, Mbatha, or Coach Eric as he was better known to his players and in football circles, collapsed and died on 21 October at his Yeoville home and was buried at the Avalon Cemetery in Soweto on 2 November.

He founded the Greek Queens 18 years ago as Hillbrow Ladies after collecting known prostitutes off the streets to play football. He met an interested sponsor for the team who persuaded him to change the team name to Croesus, after a well-known Greek king, hence the nickname Greek Queens for the team.

According to a post-mortem report, Coach Eric’s cause of death was listed as ‘fatal midgut volvulus’, which when put in layman’s language, means twisted intestines which apparently stopped the flow of blood and led to his collapse and death.
