What to do this weekend

JOBURG – Top five things to do in Joburg this weekend.

What has been a tumultuous and stormy week is reaching a close and we couldn’t be any happier. This week we’ve got a lot of things to get up to – from the opening of Jack and the Beanstalk to salsa at SIX. Let’s sit back and kick-off the weekend on a high with these hot events.

Check out our top five things to do this weekend:

15 November: Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk returns for panto season on the Mandela Stage at the Joburg Theatre. Acclaimed writer, director and South Africa’s queen of pantomime Janice Honeyman will once again tell the story of poor country boy Jack, the family cow, the magic beans, the enormous beanstalk, the unfriendly giant and the enchanted hen that lays the golden egg on 15 November.  This ever- popular pantomime story traditionally sets good against evil and is jam-packed full of Honeyman’s wit, double-entendres, charm and magic. Tickets are available from R275 – R395 on www.webtickets.co.za.

16 November: Market on Main @ 44 Stanley

Market on Main is returning to 44 Stanley on 16 November for another night market pop-up. Dress up warmly and come and enjoy food, drink, music and more! Your favourite market vendors will be scattered around the centre and all the shops and restaurants will be staying open late too.

16 November: The Publik Wine Fair

The Publik Wine Fair is an annual wine tasting event, where independent South African artisan wine producers showcase their wines in an approachable and unpretentious way. This year, the event takes place at Victoria Yards on 16 November, to be anti-traditional, more inclusive, and to support new developments.  Tickets are available on www.quicket.co.za for R200.

17 November: Rooftop Salsa Presents SALSA AT SIX

End the weekend with an afternoon of social dancing of salsa, bachata, and Kizomba at Rooftop Salsa Presents SALSA AT SIX on 17 November. You can dance or watch while sipping Six’s famous two-for-one cocktails from 3:30 – 8 pm just don’t overindulge in the pink drinks or you’ll end up burning your dancing shoes.

17 November: M2 Reopening Celebration

Access into the City is back to regular flow now that the M2 highway renovations are completed. To celebrate Market on Main will stay open until 6pm with cocktails and tunes to mark the occasion.
