Developments in Rosebank affect security and safety

ROSEBANK – The last Rosebank Operations meeting for the year highlighted some issues which still need attention including the drug problem and taxi space.

A variety of stakeholders in Rosebank took part in the last Rosebank Operations meeting held at Rosebank Towers. The meeting was hosted by Excellerate Managed Services in the presence of property owners, security services as well as the Ward 117 councillor, Tim Truluck.

Truluck gave an outline of upcoming meetings that would be held in the ward including the Parkhurst Residents and Business Association AGM to be held on 19 November. He also briefed attendants on the ongoing Rosebank Linear Park Development and said the council was still waiting for the official opening of the new Small Events Park.

With the rainy season in progress, Truluck said, “Rain brings with it a raft of power outages and a few years ago it used to take three to five days to get power restored. Now it takes one to two days and the key to getting power restored after rain is to log it online on citypower.mobi rather than the call centre.”

Precinct manager for Excellerate Managed Services, Lerato Khiba said they meet with security services every week and part of the meetings have been to address problematic drug areas in Rosebank. “There has been a car parked at Keyes Park and feedback reports have told us that there has been a reduction in drug problem since then. We also have a sniffer dog which accompanies us during operations and we have mostly recovered dagga at Rosebank Park,” said Khiba.

She added that the growing issue of homeless people at Rosebank Park who were becoming more violent had been addressed by involving law officials who removed them but (homeless people) kept coming back.

Regarding the taxi lack-of-space issue, Khiba said they had previously had meetings with concerned stakeholders and they would soon have a big meeting with everyone involved to come up with a solution.

Rank manager Johannes Musekwa announced that he had stepped down as the Rosebank Taxi Association manager and there would be a new committee launched. Khiba said she was grateful for the association’s cooperation throughout their tenure.

Khiba said there had been a decline in cell phone snatching and the next operations meeting would be held next year.
