Murder suspect and two accomplices swiftly arrested

YEOVILLE – A swift response by the Yeoville police has helped put a murder suspect and two accomplices in custody.

Police’s swift response to an incident on the corner of Raleigh and Fortesquare streets led to the arrest of a suspect and his accomplices. This after five officials put in a team effort and ensured the swift arrest of three suspects involved in a murder incident.

Police quickly responded to a complaint about a man lying on the pavement with a bullet wound in the head at about 2am. The man was later certified dead by the paramedics. Yeoville Police Station’s spokesperson Captain Sifiso Mabizela said the witness indicated that the deceased was known to three suspects. The deceased argued with the main suspect who apologised.

When the deceased didn’t respond, the suspect with his two accomplices went back to their victim about 10 minutes later. The main suspect allegedly took out the firearm and shot the victim at the back of his head and he ran away with his accomplices.

“The Yeoville police members followed information and it led them to a guest house in Dunbar Street where the members swiftly arrested the trio and recovered the firearm allegedly used in the crime,” he said.

The three suspects who were in custody were expected to appear at the magistrates’ court for murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and harbouring a suspect and defeating the ends of justice. The Station Commander, Colonel Happy Xaba stressed it was a true reflection of the station’s festive operation and removal of lawlessness.

Xaba said it was just the beginning and further applauded members for the job well done and also appreciated the members of the community that help assist police in wrapping up the case.
