A welcome gift for people with disabilities
WESTCLIFF – A donation of wheelchairs and crutches shipped all the way from Taiwan was well-received by a selected beneficiary in Westcliff.
Distance did not deter the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) from donating wheelchairs which had come all the way from Taiwan. The association’s monks, nuns, devotees and volunteers made their way to Hope School in Westcliff to hand over donations to the Association for the Physically Disabled Greater Johannesburg (APD).
Besides the 21 wheelchairs, there were 10 crutches as well as food parcels handed over.
Devotee and volunteer of the association, Du Mann Ying said the international non-governmental organisation ran a lot of outreach programmes. “We donate all over the world and we want to help those in need. We do this every year and we travel all over provinces and to APD centres in Soweto, Tembisa and Johannesburg CBD encouraging collective action and social progress,” Ying added.
She said the nuns and monks blessed the people they visited and encouraged them to ‘speak good and act good’. Ying also added that this was an ongoing outreach programme with more donations yet to come.
Director at APD Greater Johannesburg, Rachel Legasa expressed her gratitude for the donations and said, “We hope this will change the lives of the beneficiaries as they will be able to move better. May this relationship continue for years to come while you also do this for others as well.”
