Five suspects arrested following armed robbery

JOHANNESBURG – Five suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metro Police's IIOC Reaction Unit for armed robbery, according to the Chief of the JMPD, David Tembe.


Police rushed to the scene of an armed robbery in progress in Eloff Street in the inner city on 27 October according to the head of the Gauteng Department of Community Safety Yoliswa Makhasi.

Chief of the Johannesburg Metro police, David Tembe said that five suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metro police’s Integrated Intelligence Operation centre (IIOC) Reaction Unit for armed robbery.

“Two armed robbers were still inside the shop loading goods. [They held staff and customers hostage when the Johannesburg metro police, in collaboration with the South African police, stormed into the shop and made arrests. Two illegal firearms, cash and goods were recovered,” said Makhasi.

In a separate incident on the same day, JMPD recovered an illegal firearm at Booysens Road and Trump Streets in Selby and arrested two suspects for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.
