Get ready for a spooky night at Joburg Zoo

SAXONWOLD – Community members are invited to enjoy a night-time picnic at the Joburg Zoo on 26 October.

Young and old are invited to enjoy a spooky adventure at Johannesburg Zoo’s Howl’oween Picnic on 26 October from 5pm to 9pm.

The zoo crew dressed in frightful Halloween costumes will welcome visitors at the entrance in Upper Park Drive, while the main entrance in Jan Smuts Avenue will be closed.

A number of scary activities will be on offer including a ghost ride, a devil’s pit surrounded by witches brewing their cauldron in a cemetery, and a walkabout in the enchanted Animals of the Amazon will include close encounters with snakes, exotic spiders, piranhas and hanging corpses.

Media relations assistant Noeleen Mattera said, “If you’re brave enough, take a walk into the haunted forest, where vampires, creepy crawlies and zombies will want to suck your blood.”

There will also be a fairyland beautifully decorated for every little dreamer including unicorns, cotton candy clouds and gnomes.

Children will be in sweet heaven when the trick or treaters fill their bags while stilt walkers and mime artists will have them in awe. There will also be jumping castles, face painting and loads more fun at the Tree of Light.

“The zoo has created a route which will lead visitors to all the decorated zones. Carved pumpkins, spider webs, witches and ghost decorations will characterise the pathways as they come to life at night for this spooky affair,” added Mattera.

Families are encouraged to dress up and win prizes including free zoo entry vouchers.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards sprucing up enclosures, general upkeep of the zoo and animal welfare.

Tickets cost R100 for adults and R60 for children. Tickets are available at www.computicket.com
