Caxton Joburg North does not just loaf round instead, the team came together to collect bread loaves for those in need for #LoafDay.
International Food Day is marked on 16 October and with this in mind, business manager Norman Dawe called on the management team at Caxton Joburg North to donate bread loaves to the hungry.
A Facebook group called #LoafDay was started to help the thousands of jobless people on our roads. The aim was for each person to buy two loaves of bread on a Wednesday which can be divided into four loaves which can help feed four people.
Under the Caxton Cares banner over 13 loaves of bread were collected and donated to the Sisters of Mercy Immaculata Hall in Rosebank. Project supervisor Mike Ntuli explained the mandate of the Immaculata Hall, “[It is a] registered non-profit organisation, and focuses more on homeless people around Rosebank.”
The shelter accommodates 20 women and 80 men who can sleep on the premises. They receive two meals a day, breakfast and supper. “After breakfast, they normally go out to look for jobs. Most of them are domestic workers and car guards,” said Immaculata Hall project supervisor, Mike Ntuli.
Caxton Joburg North challenges other businesses and schools to take part in #LoafDay every Wednesday.
