Limpopo Hawks net suspected drug dealers in Hillbrow with sizeable amount of drugs

HILLBROW – Drugs with the estimated street value of over R1.5 million were recovered.

A multi-disciplinary takedown operation resulted in the arrest of four suspected drug dealers, aged between 27 and 42, in Hillbow on 11 October.

This follows and intensive investigation in Limpopo which responded to a public outcry concerning the mushrooming of drugs in the area, led by South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation which targets organised crime in Limpopo. The investigation then led to the arrest of the suspected kingpins at a flat in Hillbrow.

The joint team was led by the Hawk’s Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in collaboration with Crime Intelligence, Limpopo Tracking Team, Priority Crime Specialised Investigation, and Provincial Organised Crime unit, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, Tracker South Africa and Magma Security Company.

Captain Matimba Maluleke, the spokesperson for the Hawks in Limpopo said this was a good success. “During the takedown, police seized a sizeable amount of drugs with the estimated street value of over R1.5 million, two drug mixers, two scales, two laptops, and an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.

All the suspects appeared at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 14 October facing charges relating to dealing in drugs.

“More arrests can be expected pending the ongoing investigation into the mushrooming of illegal drugs,” he concluded.
