Join the Mutt Walk in support of the Sandton SPCA

KILLARNEY – Humans and dogs are invited to enjoy the fresh air at the Killarney Country Club and support the Sandton SPCA at the same time.

Locals are invited to enjoy a scenic walk with their dogs around the Killarney Country Club and support the work of the Sandton SPCA on 20 October.

The annual Mutt Walk is a staple event on the organisation’s calendar, inviting community members to get active with their furry friends.

General manager of the Sandton SPCA Ralph Hohls said, “The walk is a wonderful opportunity to take dogs for a walk-in safe, beautiful surroundings. We are promoting healthy living to support the running costs of the SPCA.”

Hohls explained that it costs the SPCA R6.5 million each year or R550 000 each month to continue its work.

The 2.5km course around the golf course includes regular watering points for the dogs and a number of pet stalls for people to browse through after breaking a sweat. Walkers are also encouraged to enjoy a wholesome breakfast at the Killarney Country Club after completing the run.

Education officer at the Sandton SPCA Wilna Lamb said ticket sales for the event have been slow so far and she hopes to see over 200 people at the event with their dogs. The SPCA hopes to raise R50 000 through the event to support their running costs.

Tickets cost R50 per adult, R35 per child and R20 per dog. There will be goody bags and loads of prizes up for grabs on the day.

Discovery Vitality members will receive 100 points if they walk the course twice (5km).

The event will take place between 6am and 8am.
