Numerous arrested as police gear up for the festive season

NORWOOD – Scores of alleged criminals have been arrested in the Norwood policing precinct.


Norwood police warned motorists to abide by the rules of the road and refrain from driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The police issued the warning as they intensify their operations ahead of the festive seasons to ensure all residents in the Norwood precinct are safe.

Scores of suspected criminals involved in various incidents were arrested from Tuesday, 1 October until Sunday, 6 October.

The station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said they have already made plans to keep their police precinct safe this festive season. “We are warning those who put the law in their own hands that we are all out in full force now,” he said.

One suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs while 15 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Three suspects who were allegedly involved in a domestic dispute and committed an assault grievously body harm were arrested as well. Four suspects were arrested for assault grievously body harm, one suspect for dealing in drugs while the other one was arrested for fraud. In the process, the police also arrested two who were in possession of a stolen motor vehicle. “One suspect was arrested for theft, one for shoplifting, the other two for common assault.”

Sergeant Masotsha said the most-wanted suspect who was allegedly involved in a business robbery in the Norwood police precinct in March 2017 was also nabbed in KwaZulu-Natal. “Some of the suspects already appeared in court on Monday, 7 October while others are expected to appear at the Hillbrow and Johannesburg Magistrates’ Courts.”
