Rosebank management districts reflect on the year

ROSEBANK – The two improvement districts which manage Rosebank held their annual general meeting to reflect on the year and make progress.

The Rosebank Management District (RMD) annual general meeting (AGM) took place at the Rosebank Towers on 3 October. The cosmopolitan, commercial and residential suburb is defined by two improvement districts namely the Upper RMD and the Lower RMD who were both in attendance.

The RMD is funded by property owners and a representative from Upper RMD Old Mutual, Neil Redelinghuys said their mission was to take over from where the district was and improve. A representative from the Lower RMD, Jed Aylmer said they were not a municipality but they had gone above and beyond in adding value to what the City provides.

Excellerate Precinct manager, Lerato Khiba said the suburb continues to experience property development with an increase in residential development. She added that they were also working with the police to address the drug issues.

“The LRMD and URMD also continued it’s social responsibility initiatives by offering financial support to Immaculata Shelter and the Rosebank Homeless Association. The Rosebank Transport Group was formed to address the taxi rank issue and metre taxi holding space while waiting for the Department of Transport to come up with a solution,” Khiba said.

She added that management districts deploy a total of 28 public safety ambassadors during the day and 12 at night who focus on crime prevention within the public space.

Looking forward to the last part of the year and towards next year, Khiba said the management districts are liaising with the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) for the resurfacing of roads in the nodes. “Trenching is still ongoing in the area. We are monitoring the reinstatements to ensure that the quality is up to standard and we are working with JRA to monitor non-compliance of contractors. We are also in touch with Pikitup to provide Separation at Source awareness and bins in the precinct,” Khiba said.
