Man held for unlicensed gun in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG – The suspect face charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

 


A 39-year-old man was arrested on 23 September at the Wanderers Taxi Rank for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to Johannesburg Central Police Station spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele the suspect was arrested while police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties of stop and search at the taxi rank.

The officers were searching passengers of a taxi that was destined for Durban.

“They recovered a revolver on one of the passengers with live rounds and the firearm’s serial numbers had been filed off,” Mbele said.

“The firearm has been sent to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of serious and violent crimes. An investigation is still underway and the suspect has since appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.”

The suspect faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
