20 behind bars for several offences

BRAMLEY – Motorists who continue to disobey the rules of the road in Bramley precinct will face the mighty arm of the law.

Bramley Police Station is determined to continue sweeping crime off the streets within their precinct.

In the latest operation, police with the assistance of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) had arrested 20 offenders mostly found while driving under the influence of alcohol. “This type of operation will never stop just as long as our motorists continue to disobey the rules of the road,” said the station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi.

He explained that on Thursday, 12 September, police followed up on a suspicious vehicle with five occupants driving towards Marlboro area.

The vehicle was earlier reported to be sought by the police following a robbery at a jewellery store in Midrand. The police followed them until the suspects stopped the vehicle along Marlboro drive and Lilium Avenue. The suspects allegedly began shooting at the police who then returned fire. One suspect was fatally shot while two sustained injuries. They were under police guard in hospital. “The other two were arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station. They were found in possession of a rifle with a serial number filed off and ammunition. They will face charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and attempted murder for attacking members of the police.”

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, six suspects were charged for possession of the suspected stolen property. Among the six, four have been found in possession of building materials allegedly stolen in a hardware store in Kew. According to the police statement, a group of people allegedly broke into the store and stole goods. “Police managed to arrest the four men and recovered some of the stolen goods,” said Captain Mogodi.

Later while patrolling in the same area, police found two more people inside the yard of the same hardware store. The two were then arrested for trespassing after they couldn’t explain why they were in the store.

On Tuesday, 17 September, police arrested a man who was found in possession of a toy gun. The officers spotted four people, among them a woman, in Kew on the corner of 9th Road and 2nd Avenue. One of the men was found in possession of the toy gun and was arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station. “The area where the suspect was arrested is prevalent for robberies,” Captain Mogodi added.
