The Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko and Gauteng deputy provincial commissioner Major General Theko Pharasi led another successful Operation O Kae Molao on 26 September.

According to a statement by Captain Mavela Masondo, more than 550 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape, business robbery, dealing in drugs, possession of suspected stolen vehicles, assault, pointing of a firearm, concealment of birth and illegal immigrants.

“The multi-disciplinary operation started the previous day with the raiding of wanted suspects, especially those who have committed a crime against women and children. Most of the suspects who thought they had evaded the law were hunted down and arrested in various parts of Gauteng,” said Masondo.

He added that the police also raided an auto spares store in Mayfair, Johannesburg, where they discovered engines and other parts of cars that had been reported stolen. The owner, who was arrested, was also found to have contravened the Second-Hand Goods Act.

“Operation O Kae Molao will continue in Gauteng until crime is brought to its lowest level. The arrested suspects will appear at various magistrates’ courts across the province in due course,” said Masondo.
