Hanna excited to be part of The Tiger show at local theatre

ORANGE GROVE – 'I love acting because it's a way of expressing yourself'.

Little Hanna Johnson is excited to be part of an intriguing role in a new theatrical show currently underway at the National Children’s Theatre in Parktown.

Hanna, a 10-year-old girl from Orange Grove, plays a leading role in The Tiger Who Came To Tea which is expected to run until 29 September.

The story is based on the classic bestselling book of all time by Judith Kerr which was first published in 1968.

The Grade 4 learner from St Katherines Primary School said she loves The Tiger Who Came To Tea because the people that are in it are absolutely wonderful.

She said this show is not her first one as she also performed in the Linder Auditorium and she aims for more exciting shows at the Parktown-based theatre.

“I plan on continuing drama at the National Children’s Theatre and taking every opportunity I get and working hard in the process and see where it takes me,” said Hanna.

“It is definitely a career for me because I love it so much but I also have to be realistic as I am only 10 years old and I do not know what the future holds for me. For now, I will continue doing my best and enjoy every opportunity that comes my way.”

Hanna started acting when she was eight years old and she said she was inspired by her primary school teacher and sister Humayrah Johnson as well as her friend Thando Mbata.

She, however, said her role model is her mother Zendaya Johnson adding that that is because she is a really ‘good’ actress herself.

Asked why she loves acting and if she would recommend it to friends, she said, “I love acting because it’s a way of expressing yourself through acting and it’s really fun and exciting.

“I would definitely recommend it as an extra-mural because it’s a really good experience.”

She said her friends are also happy for her and when she tells them they think she’s joking.

The youngster is currently doing The Tiger Who Came To Tea and she is looking forward to another one, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is coming soon.
