Bramley CPF to conduct annual general meetings

BRAMLEY – The Bramley Community Policing Forum plans to conduct elective annual general meetings during October and November this year.

The chairperson of Bramley Community Policing Forum (CPF), Harvey Phalatse is appealing to all members of the public in Bramley to develop an interest in their safety and security.

Phalatse calls for all stakeholders within the police precinct to get involved in the upcoming elective general election to be held in October and November.

The elections will be conducted at both station level as well as all four sectors during for a new five-year term (2020 until 2025).

“These elective meetings will allow residents from our policing precinct to elect new committee members who will take forward the mandate of the CPF to ensure that we create safer communities,” he said.

Phalatse added that their different sectors have continued to experience serious incidents of contact crimes and trio crimes including murders, robberies, house-break-ins, carjacking, domestic violence but as CPF, they have been extremely encouraged by the proactive steps taken by the police team at Bramley Police Station.

The police efforts had resulted in some successful arrests and convictions. “Crime affects all of us, regardless of culture, creed, race and religion. It is, therefore, paramount that police and the community forge and sustain relations in fighting crime.”

Phalatse said he couldn’t over-emphasise the importance of community involvement in their quest to fight crime. “Without your involvement, we will not be as successful as a collective.

“I, therefore, wish to urge everyone in our precinct to get involved in crime-fighting initiatives, including active involvement with the CPF structures which have been established to improve communication between the police and the community, to foster joint problem-solving and cooperation with a view to improving service delivery by the police service.”

He indicated that the police are answerable to the communities they serve and residents’ active participation in these structures will enable the CPF to perform that vital role of civilian oversight of the police in the precinct.

He encouraged all residents to attend these elective annual general meetings in October and November with specific dates to be communicated through established social media platforms and community newspapers notice to ensure that capable and committed leaders are elected to work closely with the station commander and Bramley Police Station.

He said the agenda of the elective meetings will also include a report on crime patterns and intervention strategies as well as discussion on how they strengthen the partnership between communities and the Bramley Police Station in their fight against crime. “We are very much aware of the high crime rate in our areas and we can only make it safer if there are proactive measures by residents working with police and the station commander.”
