Glenhazel Primary School’s Grade 4 science learner makes her teacher proud

GLENHAZEL – Ellah is one of the 60 learners out of 5 500 learners in the Gauteng district who participated in the competition.

A teacher at Glenhazel Primary School is overwhelmed by a performance from one of her science learners who competed in and beat her exceptional peers at a science fair competition.

Natural science and technology teacher Irene Meda said she is very proud of Grade 4 learner Ellah Biaya who recently took part in the District Science Fair at Summerwood Primary School.

According to Meda, the chemistry star did exceptional work in her experiment and oral presentation on balloon chemistry, impressing not only the judges but also her teacher. “She was number one in her category at first district level in the matter and materials category and she represented Johannesburg East District 9 at the provincial science fair held in Germiston on 7 September,” explained Meda.

“She was one of the 60 learners out of 5 500 learners in the whole of the Gauteng district who was participating in the competition. As a school, we are very proud of her and we are pleased she represented the school very well and has put our school on the map.”

Meda said Ellah has proven that science is a practical and very important subject and she is an encouragement to other learners. This also gives other learners a chance to showcase their scientific knowledge in future, she added.

The nine-year-old Ellah received a scientific token of appropriation from the organisers as well as a certificate to honour her work of chemistry.
