MEC Lesufi sends his condolences to Parktown crash victims

PARKTOWN – The crash caused the death of a father and son, the boy attended Johannesburg Autism School.


Gauteng MEC for Education and Youth Development Panyaza Lesufi has sent his condolences after an eight-year-old learner who attended Johannesburg Autism School and his 51-year-old father after died in a five-vehicle crash on Empire Road in Parktown on 10 September. 

Lesufi said, “We would like to send our heartfelt condolences to both families and the school community. May they find comfort in knowing that we too share their pain and sorrow.”

Spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Education Steve Mabona said, “According to information at our disposal, the learner was travelling to school with his father on a motorcycle when they were suddenly hit by a Rea Vaya bus at the intersection of Empire and Joubert roads. They were both unfortunately declared dead on the scene.”

Metro police spokesperson, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the cause of the crash will be investigated.

Mabona added that the department had dispatched officials from the psychosocial unit to render counselling services to the learners, teachers and to all those affected by the incident.
