David Tlale depicts rich and vibrant mix of SA cultures in Tastic heritage pack design

JOBURG – Tastic Rice and fashion designer David launch their collaboration in honour of Heritage Month.

Tastic Rice and fashion designer David have launched their collaboration in honour of Heritage Month. Inspired by his childhood, as well as the rich and vibrant mix of cultures found in South Africa, Tlale has created an exclusive pack design that will be found on Tastic packaging throughout the month.

“In creating the pack, I was inspired by the colours and textures of the women I grew up around, iconic South-African buildings as well as the DNA of the House of David Tlale, which is all about structure, texture and drama,” Tlale said.

The event highlighted the relationship between fashion, food and heritage through a uniquely South African lens. With a menu curated by Chef Nti, guests were treated to a menu of Tastic Rice dishes inspired by Nti’s own heritage and childhood.

“I drew my inspiration for the menu from the memories of all my favourite foods growing up, such as mogudu and all my favourite seven-colour dishes,”Nti said.

Guests in attendance included TV personality and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo, actress Tsholo Matshaba, singer Brenda Mntambo, model Blue Mbombo and influencer Tshepi Vundla while Vusi Nova provided the entertainment.

“Tastic’s collaboration with David Tlale is important in the context of South Africa as it shows that we can celebrate our differences, as well as what unifies us,” said Thembi Sehloho, marketing director for rice and pasta at Tiger Brands South Africa.

Sehloho said the pack design beautifully depicts the life of an everyday South African and celebrates the character, texture and colours that make us who we are.
