Waverley Tennis Club to host Tennis Festival for local schools

WAVERLY – There will be lots of fun activities throughout the festival.

Motion and Colour Foundation is offering tennis coaching in the Johannesburg north-eastern suburbs for underprivileged children.

Established in 2015, the foundation works extensively with local schools, focusing mainly on tennis development and assists mostly disadvantaged children who cannot afford tennis lessons.

In its fourth year running, the foundation is hosting a tennis festival on 7 September at the Waverley Tennis Club and about 200 children from local schools are expected to participate.

Thantshi Masitara, the chairperson of the foundation said children who might be interested in the sport were welcome to participate in the day’s fun activities. The festival starts at 11am.

“The programme is offered in collaboration with schools, as the foundation uses physical education lessons as a platform,” said Masitara.

“Two-hundred participants will be pre-selected from participating schools to offer them the opportunity to compete. The occasion is also a fundraiser.”

Masitara said entry is R20 and there would be jumping castles and food stalls.
