Workers Museum is proud to host an exhibition entitled ‘uNozizwe a Village Girl’ in conjunction with Khanya College Jozi Book Fair 2019 under the theme ‘Literature and Newspaper’.
The story of Nozizwe coincided with the end of Women’s Month celebrations.
According to a statement released by MMC for Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba, artist Sam Makhubo is a South African artist who specialises in producing handmade craft products such as 3D boxed framed sculptures, figurate coffee tables, painting, and printmaking.
“Presently, he runs an Artistic Zone that facilitates art classes in disadvantaged schools, such as schools for the disabled, skills schools and orphanages to help them with product development, equipping learners with required techniques and methods of producing marketable art products,” said Sifumba.
Sifumba said Makhubo has produced 25 big paintings illustrating the life of Nozizwe, with the intention to teach the world the importance and the role that is played by every single African woman in our society. The story tells of the fight against sexism, tribalism, xenophobia, racism, women and children abuse, while promoting African lifestyle at the same time. Makhubo has used canvas and acrylic paintings.
The exhibition can be seen daily from 9am to 5pm
