R15 million worth of counterfeit goods seized in inner-city

INNER CITY – 13 undocumented people were also arrested during the operation.


Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) as part of operation O Kae Molao seized counterfeit goods to the value of R15 million on Small Street, Johannesburg CBD on 23 August. 

According to a released statement,  13 undocumented people were also arrested during the operation. Four properties which had illegally connected power supply were disconnected by officials from City Power.

“The counterfeit goods include footwear, clothes, and watches of well-known brands such as adidas, Nike, Puma, Tom Ford, and Gucci,” said Mashaba in the statement.

The operation was conducted in conjunction with the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Services (GFIS) Department, the South African Police Service, JMPD and the South African Revenue Service.

Mashaba said, “We must bring back the rule of law in our city and take it back from the criminal elements.”

Mashaba furthermore said the City was committed to ensuring that they stop the rot in the inner-city and make it a prosperous and inclusive place for people to live work and play.
