Preparations are all set for Highlands North Boys’ High School’s 80th birthday celebration on 31 August.
According to the organisers, this year’s birthday will mark a milestone for the school, established in 1939, as well as the neighbouring communities.
Chris Bosielo, the school governing body (SGB) chairperson, said invitations are already out and they hope for a successful celebration event.
Bosielo said they have reached out to former learners and invited neighbouring schools to be part of their historic day. “Though it is not as much as we wanted, we have 40 former learners who we met and who have confirmed that they will be coming,” he said.
“We also invited neighbouring schools as well as the district director Shirley Molobi who has confirmed as well to attend. Plans are indeed at an advanced stage and we’re happy so far with how things are happening.”
According to the chairperson, they have started with the decorations which include paintings of the office foyer.
Bosielo added that their fundraising team is hard at work putting things together to ensure that this day is a success, however, they are having trouble with finding sponsors. He said they are still asking local businesses and residents who have the means, to give their support and ensure that this year’s celebration becomes a real milestone for the school.

“The school requires financial support and donations from local businesses and residents to refurbish our facilities.
“We would like to restore the roofing of some of our block of classrooms and fix doors as well as broken windows.”
