Parktown Girls host first round of thrilling Pullen Howell Hockey Tournament

PARKVIEW – The Parktown Girls first team finished 6th overall while the U16A team placed 11th overall.

 


Parktown High School for Girls hosted the first round of the Pullen and Howell Hockey Tournament on 20 July.

The competition was made up of four pools with four teams per pool. Two teams in each pool went through to the quarterfinals followed by all the games for the final placings on 27 July. Parktown Girls did some fundraising by selling food and drinks at the tournament.

Parktown Girls U16A team won their first pool match against Trinity House 3–0. They then went on to lose to the tournament winners Transvalia and them narrowly lost to St Dominics in a very close game, ultimately placing third in their pool overall.

On the final day of the tournament, the U16A team lost against St Dominics again before beating Randpark High School on penalties later in the day. The U16s placed 11th out of 16 schools.

The first team won their first match of the tournament against Reddam JHB 2–0, then lost to Waterkloof, but managed another win against Jeppe (2–0). The girls placed second in their pool and played in the quarterfinals which they lost to Trinity House Randpark. They lost again against Krugersdorp, going down 3–1. This set them up to play for 5th and 6th place on the final day of the tournament.

They played their final match of the tournament against Marais Viljoen which they lost 4–2 after leading the majority of the match. They placed 6th out of 16 teams in the tournament.
