Operation leads to more than 120 foreign undocumented foreign nationals arrested

HILLBROW – According to authorities, the buildings are known for criminal activities.

The police and Metro police conducted a joint operation at residential building, Idle Wild, on Kapteijn Street, Hillbrow on 14 August.

Metro police spokesperson, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the building was known for criminal activities. “Here criminals hide stolen goods, illegal firearms, drugs and other dangerous weapons inside these buildings.”

About 70 undocumented foreign nationals were arrested in the Idle Wild building. “108 pockets of dagga were thrown from this building during the raid,” Minnaar added.

Meanwhile, 50 other undocumented foreign nationals were arrested at the Flemming Hall building. Two people attempted to flee by jumping from the second and 5th floors. One was injured and taken to a nearby hospital under police guard and the other died due to his injuries.

Minnaar concluded that they would hold more operations on ‘bad’ buildings in Hillbrow and the Joburg CBD.
