27 suspects behind bars following operation “Okae Molau”

YEOVILLE – About 27 suspects were arrested within the Yeoville police precinct following operation "Okae Molau'


Yeoville Police Station commander Colonel Happy Xaba welcomed the arrest of 27 suspects during an Okae Molau operation which was conducted on the evening of 8 August until the early hours of the next day.

The operation was conducted in the Yeoville police precinct. Xaba commended and applauded members of Metro police, Home Affairs and police officials who ensured a peacefult Women’s Day. The suspects were arrested for several crimes including kidnapping, robbery, housebreaking and theft, assault, dealing in liquor without a licence, dealing in dagga and illegal immigrants.

“During the operation, six documented foreign nationals who were kidnapped and driven around to elicit payment for their release from their employers and relatives were rescued,” said police spokesperson Captain Sifiso Mabizela.

The foreign nationals were rescued in the evening at about 8.45pm when one of the victims jumped out of the bakkie that was transporting them, had stopped at robots.

The victim who had spotted the police on the corner of Hendon and Joe Slovo streets asked for their help.

He told officers that their abductors had driven around with them and were demanding money for their release following an arrangement that they would be taken from Musina to Johannesburg Park station.

A 39-year-old suspect who was arrested in connection with the kidnapping was expected to appear in court on 12 August.
