Cyclists get fit while they raise funds

ROSEBANK – A variety of sponsors contributed to a successful cyclethon fundraiser by ORT SA.

Cyclists had a night filled with sweat and blood pumping fun for a good cause in Rosebank.

ORT SA powered by Planet Fitness hosted a cyclethon fundraiser at the Sumo Night Club.

ORT SA’s fundraising manager, Helene Itzkin said, “In order to continue supporting the children, youth and South African entrepreneurs, ORT SA, an education and training non-profit organisation, is raising funds to continue providing programmes such as teacher training, cutting-edge IT skills, coding for kids, as well as small business coaching.”

ORT SA CEO, Ariellah Rosenberg added that Ort SA’s vision was all about educating for life and their mission was to make people employable. “We all know the situation in the country in terms of unemployment,” she said. “One of the projects that we’re involved with is taking unemployed youth, training them, giving them skills, knowledge, and the work experience to be able to become employable. So far this year we’ve helped 600 unemployed youth who we have placed in schools and small businesses.”

She added the other big project that they’re looking into is how they could equip today’s generation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. “We have projects we run at schools. By the end of the year, we will be training more than 4 000 learners in our coding club. Our coding clubs give the skills not only of coding programs but also of collaboration, teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.”

She said small sustainable businesses played a major role in the economy and therefore they assisted small businesses with skills, business training and mentorship. “There are hundreds of businesses we have been supporting in different industries. We know that by the end of this year we want to double the number of working unemployed youth and we always want to raise more funds because that means we grow our impact.”

It’s a great night out to raise funds for people in need while getting fit and having fun.”

Popular DJs, Mark Stent, and Hapoly provided the music pro bono and cyclists received goody bags. Healthy snacks were provided by Franjelicas. Many other substantial sponsors were acknowledged.
