Woman arrested after child admitted to hospital

BRAMLEY – Police appeal to the community to seek professional help when they notice that there are misunderstandings in the relationship.


A woman who allegedly abused a child in Marlboro near Alexandra is in custody. This follows an incident in which the child, who was left in the care of a woman, was allegedly abused and ended up in the local hospital’s intensive care unit.

On Thursday 25 July police were called by a witness to where the abuse had allegedly happened.

“On arrival, they found a four-year-old child who had sustained bruises and they were informed by the witness that the child was assaulted by her brother’s wife,” said Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi.

Mogodi said the detectives managed to arrest the 30-year-old woman on Tuesday 29 July and she was detained at the Bramley Police Station.

The Family, Child and Sexual Offense Unit has taken over the investigation and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 43-year-old man was detained after the victim reported his abuse to the police.

According to the police report, it is alleged that on Sunday 28 July, the victim, her husband and family members gathered in Marlboro to solve the never-ending abuse by the suspect.

It was reported that the suspect allegedly then lost self-control and assaulted the victim. The suspect was arrested after the incident was reported to the police.

Still, in Marlboro, the 45-year-old man was arrested for assault which is related to domestic violence.

It is alleged that the incident unfolded between the victim and her husband. It is not known what caused the fight but the police were informed of the assault and the case was opened.

“We appeal to the community to seek professional help when they notice that there are misunderstandings in the relationship,” Mogodi said.
