The 1st team soccer at Parktown High School for Girls had their annual camp mid-July.
According to the school’s sports co-ordinator, Cailin Whyte, they started off the weekend with an intense training session, unpacking bags followed by dinner and some captain’s games. “The next day we headed out to Bedfordview Country Club for the JVW (Janine van Wyk) School Tournament. The girls had a fantastic day playing seven games and winning six of them with a narrow defeat in the final. We are extremely proud of the girls for coming second out of 14 schools.”
She added that they couldn’t wait to see what the 2019 season brings. Whyte extended her congratulations to Elmarie Fourie for being awarded the Player of the Tournament and receiving a Banyana Banyana playing shirt from the South African captain, Janine van Wyk.
Whyte said, “This is a great way to start the season; the team is bonding well and looking forward to a very busy season ahead. Many thanks also to Miss Haus for planning the camp and staying over with the girls at school on the Friday evening.”
On the other hand, the school extended congratulations to touch rugby girls on being selected for the provincial touch rugby squad. Kerry Liss for marketing and communications at the school said,
“It is absolutely incredible that 32 of our girls have made it through. Good luck to all the girls for the next round of selections.”
