Sector one Norwood CPF is established

NORWOOD – The Sector 1 CPF is well on its way to being a fully functional forum.

The new executive committee members of the Norwood Sector 1 CPF were elected on Wednesday, 31 August at an elective meeting held Africa Pride Hotel in Melrose Arch.

Although some of the committee’s positions are yet to be filled, this has been deemed as a major step in the right direction.

Colin Wasserfall was elected as the sector’s chairperson while Sunil Geness was elected as his deputy and Hayley Strauss was elected as the sector’s public relations officer. The positions for secretary and deputy secretary are yet to be filled.

Norwood Police Station commander, Colonel Phethole Mahasha encouraged residents to become more involved in the forum and fill the vacant positions.

He said they are going to use the forum to share ideas on how to deal with issues of crime in the area and allocation of resources.

“This committee must take us to the next level. The elected residents should be committed to working with the community,” he said.

Colonel Mahasha indicated that the forum is one of the main vehicles that can help the community and police in the fight against crime.

Ward 74 councillor David Fisher said he was pleased about the progress in the establishment of the CPF. “We need to make sure there is communication and the Forum is functional,” he said.

Thabo Thipe from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety who facilitated the election said the involvement in the forum was of paramount importance in the fight against crime.
