New residents association launches in the suburbs

LYNDHURST – The aim of the association is to make the area safer for all who live in it.


Residents in Lyndhurst and Corlett Gardens are invited to the launch of their newly formed residents’ association aimed at safe-guarding the area.

Lyndhurst and Corlett Gardens Residents’ Association (LCGRA) members are currently hard at work preparing for the launch set to be held between Drome and Modderfontein roads on 18 August.

The association currently consist of Gary Rubin and David Kahn of Corlett Gardens and five other residents. According to Rubin, they aim to work with Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer, a private security company, Metro police as well as the local police.

He added that the association is a non-political, non-sexist and non-religious entity working for the benefit of all – they want to make the area safer for all who live in it. “We are presently recruiting members with no cost attached at the moment.”

As part of the launch, residents will take part in Mayor Herman Mashaba’s A Re Sebetseng initiative aimed at encouraging people to keep their areas clean. “We will be holding an A Re Sebetseng in our area on Sunday, 18 August from 9am to 1pm and we invite residents in the areas to participate. We, via Rugheimer, have extended an invitation to Mayor Mashaba, MMC Nico de Jager who bears responsibility for Region E in which the area falls, as well as the regional director [Liziwe Ntshinga-Makoro].”

Rubin concluded that more information will be shared with the members attending their planning meeting on 5 August, anyone interested in attending is more than welcome.
