Art installation encourages acts of kindness

ROSEBANK – The art installation is the second of a number of installations to promote acts of kindness.

Rabbi David Masinter unveiled a large art installation promoting kindness on the corner of Oxford and Bolton roads on Mandela Day.

The installation reads ‘Be kind’ and can easily be viewed by pedestrians and motorists commuting in the busy part of Rosebank.

Masinter explained his reasoning for this installation. “This world is God’s most precious garden and we are the gardeners. Bad action creates bad energy and good action creates good energy.”

This installation follows the first installation with the same words in Rivonia Road, Sandton, earlier this year.

“This is an affirmation that we are committed to making our city kinder. At the end of the day, it is about being kind. There is so much bad news making headlines, I want to share this positive message with the world.

“If we all join hands and commit to being kinder, the world would be a better place.”

The project forms part of the Change Our World For Good campaign, where individuals are encouraged to give an Ark (acts of random kindness) piggy-bank to someone in need.

Liberty funded the installation and Standard Bank allowed for the art to be displayed on the corner of their property.

Group executive for client and advisor experience at Liberty Johan Minnie addressed the small crowd saying, “When I think of this sign and what it stands for, it reminds me of Madiba. He was the person who helped all of us in South Africa to really understand what kindness means.”

Sandwiches, beanies and bowls of soup were also handed out to passersby at the unveiling ceremony.

Masinter intends on installing between 10 and 18 installations with similar sentiments at busy places across the city.
