CAP warns residents to call in suspicious behaviour

CRAIGHALL PARK – A resident lost a few valuables after a follow-home robbery.

A report from Community Active Protection (CAP) stated that a driveway armed robbery occurred on Richmond Avenue in Craighall Park on 4 July. The incident occurred at about 12.45 pm with between two to three suspects driving a grey Suzuki Sedan with at least one armed with a firearm.

“The suspects opportunistically followed a victim who was driving home. As the victim approached their gate, the Suzuki pulled up behind to block off the victim. One suspect debussed the Suzuki and attempted to hold the victim up but was unsuccessful as the victim drove towards their garage,” the report further stated. The suspect continued up the garage and held the victim up, taking jewellery and a watch while the driver of the Suzuki prevented the gate from closing by blocking the gate. The suspect then returned to the Suzuki which left toward Buckingham Avenue.

Parkview Police Station spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that an armed robbery was reported at the station and a case has been opened with the investigation still ongoing.

CAP advised, “If you assume that you are being followed, do not proceed home. Contact CAP immediately on 0861 227 227 and a call operator will be able to assist you. Also, contact them 10 minutes prior to arriving at your property to organise a vehicle to escort you safely inside.”
