Beyoncé enlists Busiswa, Moonchild Sanelly and African all-stars in new Lion King album

JOBURG – The Lion King: The Gift is set to release on 19 July and features an array of African all-stars.

South African artists are steadily shooting towards a global takeover – from bagging international awards to collaborating with internationally acclaimed personalities – these artists are putting the country’s creative industry on the map.

Amidst the hype around the Lion King’s imminent release, Disney is set to release The Lion King soundtrack, The Lion King: The Gift, produced by Beyoncé and packed with an array of collabos. Noteworthy features on the soundtrack include South African dance music queens, Moonchild Sanelly and Busiswa who lend their talents on My Power alongside Tierra Whack, Yemi Alade and Beyoncé.

“I have no words to explain and express my gratitude for being one of the chosen ones for the Lion King soundtrack by my ultimate favourite artist in the world,” Moonchild said.

With appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams, Childish Gambino, the album also features numerous African artists such Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Wiz Kid and more African talent.

The Lion King: The Gift is set to be released this Friday, 19 July, coinciding with the film’s release. The film features the voices of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon, and is set to open in cinemas on 19 July.
