Dosline moves to a different groove

JOBURG – DJ/producer, Dosline keeps his pulse on music trends.

In the past year, amapiano have seen a miraculous rise. The subgenre of house and dance music has gone from being an underground and niche sound to being one of the biggest mainstream sounds and is practically heard everywhere – from clubs, taxis and even sporting events.

With over 16 years in the industry, DJ and producer, Dosline recently collaborated with popular amapiano vocalist, Leehleza for their chart-topping hit Korobela. The song effortlessly evokes an energetic and festive vibe and has since done well on radio and even sparked the #KorobelaChallenge on social media.

“We decided to hook up and make something together. I cooked up the beat and he came through to my studio in Joburg and we just messed around in the studio, it was just a fun day of freestyling, thinking of ideas and we finally came out with a hit,” Dosline said.

Dosline’s musical journey has seen him put in his 10 000 hours in the music game and he said his love for music and playing music that people love has kept him going and seen him share the stage with industry giants such as DJ Fresh, Black Coffee, and Oskido.

“I always go with the energy of the crowd and always go with what people want to hear, that’s why my sets move from Afro-house to gqom. There can be four genres in an hour set, as long as I get people jumping. It’s been consistent, it’s been nice and smooth, no hiccups and no bumps. I’m just enjoying how it’s picking up,” he said.

The diversity in the DJ’s production and sets puts him at an advantage to keep his pulse on music trends and adapt to the constant changes such as amapiano’s rise. Dosline said he adapts his sound to fit the changing landscape.

In the advent of Korobela’s success, Dosline said he wants to let the sound marinate and build up anticipation for the rest of the projects he has lined up for the rest of the year with a full-length project expected to drop early next year.

“With the amapiano side of things, I think I’ve produced about six tracks so far, but, the sound is heavily afro-house, the type to make you dance no matter what. When we drop the album we’ll see how we balance it nicely. Even though amapiano is now, afro-house is the type of sound that’ll never die,” Dosline said.
