Eat potjiekos and donate to charity at the same time

PARKVIEW – Help raise funds to support the Nicarela Charity while eating delicious potjiekos.

Foodies can look forward to the 12th annual Greatest Potjiekos Competition taking place at George Hay Park in Lurgen Road, Parkview on 21 July.

All proceeds from the competition will go towards the Nicarela Charity with over 20 different beneficiary organisations, including local schools, soup kitchens, HIV support groups and a variety of other charities.

Marketing manager of Nicarela Charity Bridget von Holdt said she hopes to match the R100 000 raised from last year’s event.

Guests will be spoilt for choice as they browse meals from 40 competitors. There will be a tented area with tables and chairs as well as a kiddies zone with fun activities on offer for the little ones.

Competing teams will be judged by local restaurant owners and celebrity judges including Brent Lindeque and Andrew Ross of My Kitchen Rules fame, for the floating trophy and the ‘Champion of the Potjie’ title.

Von Holdt said, “It is not only a competition for the best pot, but we look for the ‘gees’ or atmosphere created at the stand, how they decorate their stand and how they interact with the public.”
