Sho Madjozi receives hero’s welcome following BET win

JOBURG – Sho Madjozi all smiles as she receives a warm welcome at O.R Tambo.

Sho Madjozi has stamped herself as one of the country’s finest exports following her win at the 2019 BET Awards last week. Walking away with the Best New International Act at the awards, Sho Madjozi came back home to a warm welcome at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday, 1 July.

Best known for her Xitsonga lyrics and vibrant fashion, this was Sho Madjozi’s first BET Award nomination and win. She said her win was a sign that the world had its eyes on African artists who displayed authenticity and diversity.

“I am proud and I hope that as Africans we can realise that we have such wealth in our cultures, because the rest of the world can see it,” Sho Madjozi said.

Among the large number of people present were Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa who said Sho Madjozoi’s award was the latest in the acknowledgement and rewarding of excellence of South African music.

“We are incredibly proud of Sho Madjozi, as with last year’s winner Sjava, because in their authenticity and artistic expression cantered in their indigenous languages, pride in culture and heritage are succeeding in attaining glory on global stages and placing SA on the map,” Mthethwa said.
