157 suspects arrested by Yeoville police for various offences

YEOVILLE – Some of the arrests were made through joint operations with other law enforcement agencies.


Officers from Yeoville Police Station arrested about 157 suspects for various crimes in the area between 1 and 26 June.

According to the spokesperson for the Yeoville Police Station, Captain Sifiso Mabizela, the charges ranged from business robbery to drug possession as well as driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and shoplifting.

“Some of the arrested suspects were released on bail, some paid fines and others are still in custody due on-going investigations or because of the nature of the charges and will appear before court soon,” explained Mabizela.

“The operations were successful through joint operations with the Department of Home Affairs, JMPD, City Of Johannesburg municipality and other units from the South African Police Services and cooperation with community members.

“Among the arrest were illegal taverns operators, traffic violators and we also confiscated a number of dangerous objects.”
